Japanned 18th century long case clock.

This clock came into the workshop in a very sad state of repair.  It had been stored some where damp for many years.  The movement had been removed and taken to an expert clock repairer. Much of the gilding on the raised areas was missing,  as were some sections of the wooden substrate.   The fret work on the bonnet was missing, as was the very top of the piece.  All the wooden sections were replaced with period wood.  The japanning was then consolidated and replaced where necessary.  All missing gilding was slowly reapplied and toned to match the original.
